Our philosophy at Senior Physical Medicine (SPM), is that there are three major aspects of life that directly impact our health; health of the skeletal frame, nutrition, and stress.
At SPM we believe that our bodies possess a natural intelligence to regulate health that is far superior to any outside interventions. Without any interference and given the proper nutrients and internal environment, our bodies are capable of flawlessly carrying out billions of operations and functions each day.
Most of these functions are processed through the autonomic control of the Central Nervous System (CNS). The CNS sends and receives messages through the spinal cord and spinal nerves. This is why it is critically important to have a healthy, flexible, and properly aligned spine. If someone has a problem or misalignment with their spine (known as a subluxation), that problem can interfere with the normal transmission of messages to and from the brain.
This subluxation can lead to many problems including headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, spinal disc degeneration and Sciatica. Research has also shown that this subluxation can weaken the immune system and lead to a number of other health issues such as recurrent infections, GI problems, and genitourinary problems to name a few. This is why SPM places such an emphases on every patients posture, ergonomics, muscle tone, muscle imbalance, and misalignments of the spine.
The focus of our Physical Medicine facility is to bring these things to our patient’s awareness, through the examinations and x-rays. Even the smallest of changes in any of these will significantly improve the health of someone’s spine and nervous system. Healthy muscle tone and balance can be achieved, good habits can be adopted, segmental and global spinal misalignments can be corrected and even chronic and debilitating pain can be significantly improved or eliminated through a course of treatment at our facility.
